The most common reason for businesses cancelling their ABN:

  • closing down
  • being sold
  • restructuring (from a sole-trader to a partnership, for example)

Before you cancel your ABN, you must have all the following in order and up to date:

  • Income Tax Returns
  • BAS lodgements
  • Reporting payments

When cancelling your ABN, the following will also be cancelled

  • GST registration
  • luxury car tax credit
  • fuel credits
  • AUSKeys linked to your ABN

Cancelling your ABN is not permanent. An application form is available online to reinstate your ABN after it has been cancelled.
